join together to make the Fox River a cleaner, more enjoyable waterfront
the fox river is enjoyed by thousands per year
The “Beautify The Fox” river cleanup was inspired by the lack of attention the shores of the Fox River have seen in recent years. Some of the major employers in our area are spending an unbelievable amount of resources to clean up the riverbed to reduce the amount of PCB’s and make the Fox River a safe recreational attraction. The shorelines, however, have gone neglected in the past few years because organized river cleanups have dried up. It has been 3 years since the last river cleanup, and we wanted to re-inspire our community to take pride in our most prominent natural resource. We sought involvement from concerned citizens, local businesses and organizations, as well as local schools and some of their affiliated clubs. The extent of the cleanup was designated from the mouth of the Fox to the first dam in De Pere. We concentrated on focus locations that have been determined to be of greatest need of cleanup. A small effort by many can make a huge difference in our community.
we are a group from the leadership green bay class of 2013
We are a small group that is participating in the Leadership Green Bay Class of 2013. Leadership Green Bay is a professional enrichment program that has been active in the Green Bay area since 1985. Each year, future leaders in the greater Green Bay area take part in the class to learn more about social issues and challenges that face Green Bay, gain leadership experience, and become engaged in the community. As part of the program, the class divides up into teams and identifies a social or public need in the community that needs attention and then works together to bring awareness to that need.
Our small group found that our passions lay in environmental issues, specifically environmental issues surrounding the Fox River. While the river itself is in the process of being cleaned, the river banks themselves have fallen into disarray and are in need of some TLC.
